I had a tooth that was bugging me the last week or so. I thought I had a filling that was coming loose so I thought that I better go get it checked out. Turns out when I got my root canal done in December, the infection had spread to one of my other teeth. Guess what Dave, you need another root canal done... YAY!!!

Well I went and got that done yesterday morning. It went alot better then I thought it was gonna go. 2 1/2 hours in the chair and it was all over. I even got to watch Bruce Almighty during the procedure. today I don't have any real pain except a headache from having my mouth open for an extended period of time yesterday.

Thankfully I got 100% dental benefits through Honda now and it is all covered. Putting some of that dental work off for 2 years caught up with me though and now I have to get it all fixed. Only 2 more appointments till it's all done though.

Well guess who locked their keys in the car...

Just after reading about Dan locking his keys in the car I decided to do the same...

Connor and I went to the grocery store, was heading back to the car and I opened up the car and put the groceries in. My car will relock if the key isn't put in the ignition within 2 minutes. I know this but wasn't thinking... I relocked. I decided to start up the car then go put the cart away. Shut the door... DOH! Car running, doors locked...

Luckily I didn't put Connor in the car like I usually do. So I went back in the store and found a pay phone and called the tow truck. They finially came and popped it open for us. Connor was patient but he needed a diaper change and was falling asleep but we finially made it back home.

I think I'll just leave my car unlocked from now on.

That really makes me mad.

Well I have been trying to pay off all my debt now that I have been getting a few extra $$ in the account now. I went to pay my visa and my FutureShop Card today. I put some money on my Visa and THOUGHT that I was putting $150 on my FutureShop Card. I went through the whole online thing of paying the bills and wasn''t really paying too close attention to what I was doing and then at the screen that confirmed what I had just paid was Visa and Bell... ARG!!!! I didn't owe Bell anything. So now I have our phone bill paid for the next 2 months.

STUPID!

Honda called me today and officially offered me full time employment. I start on Monday the 25th. Only 5 more days of "vacation" for me!! I can't wait to get back to work. It has been good being off for that last 6 months but I am more then ready to get back to it.

Well I got the call back from Honda today, I guess I passed the test. Now I just have to go in and get a physical done next week and I'll be good to go. Huzzah!

Hello all, well if you haven't heard I finially got the call from Honda about a week ago. I had to go write my assessment test this past Saturday. It's basically a test to determine your ability to pay attention to detail. They do a few videos and tape recordings and then they ask you questions about each one. Not too hard but it can be tricky if you are not paying close attention. I think I did very well on it. Out of the 120 or so questions I think there were only about 8 that I wasn't sure about. It was all on scantron so I guessed at the ones that I wasn't completely sure about. Honda will be getting the result back by the end of the week and hopefully I will get called back at the end of the week or early next week. So that's whats going on with me.

Busy last few months

Hey all, I figured that I better let you all know what we have been up to for the last few months. Well, I started working at a concrete place up in Barrie. It was terrible and I hated every minute I was there. I was only there for 3 1/2 weeks and then I got layed off with no warning. Ok, fine by me! A few days later they called me up and told me that the Team Leader screwed up and I wasn't supposed to be let go and they want me back. Uh no... Well I'm gonna be starting back at Christian Horizons in a few weeks. Going back to where I was before Honda, I'm OK with that. Well enough about that.

About a month ago we went to the Airshow at Base Borden. It was great and Connor really loved the planes.

We even found an old guy who made a really little plane that Connor could sit in. We saw the Snowbirds andwe got to sit in one of the Snowbird planes. It was cool.

We went to the Elmvale zoo, but our batteries dies so no pictures on this adventure. It's a nice little zoo just outside of Wasaga Beach. The have Giraffes, monkeys, lions, tigers, and goats. Connor loved the goats most of all cuz you could go right in with them and feed them.

Last week we decided to go camping for a few days in preparation of another trip next month with Brock, Julie and Garrett. We went to Earl Roe Provincial Park just outside of Alliston. Connor really loved camping and sleeping in the tent.

We all had a great time and can't wait to go back again. We had a bit of bad luck on Monday night when that big storm blew through. The wind was blowing the rain right up under the fly and it was getting rather wet in the tent. We went home and slept in our own beds and went back in the morning to pack up. We were happy cuz sleeping in soggy sleeping bags is no fun at all...

Connor's favourite part of the trip though was playing with sicks and eating marshmallows!

Our fridge stopped fridgerating last week after the heat wave. We just had to defrost the freezer and then it fired back up again. It was a pain taking all the food to the neighbour's house, but at least we only lost a little milk.

This is Connor's vintage sailor suit, that I got from a friend. Dave thought it was embarassing. Everyone at church thought it was cute. Dave has no sense of adventure.

Well I've never been a big fan of the CFL. I don't think that you could call me a huge fan of football in general. I do enjoy the odd NFL game here and there and I always try to catch my beloved Dolphins whenever they are showing them up here. So a few months ago I was very disappointed that my boy Ricky Williams went and got himself suspended again for this year. Oh well, I'll survive. Then I hear that the Argos have his CFL rights... hmmm... interesting, but no way one of the elite running backs would come play up here.

Fast forward to tonight. Ricky signed a 1 year deal with the Toronto Argos... WOW!! I can now wear one of my two Ricky jerseys with pride! I think I may go and get myself a Argos jersey now too. I don't think I've watched a full CFL game in the last few years but I think I'm gonna have to go to one this year. Plus the tickets are dirt cheap I believe.

Do not attempt to use a diaper as nunchucks. As funny as it may look and as funny as your child will think it is, it is not wise. The diaper will be ruined beyond recognition and will be a waste of money. Especially do not attempt with a dirty diaper, no need to comment on the problem that may arise from that unfortunate event.

So I've had this for a while now and Kate said that I couldn't go and gloat about it but it's been a month and a half now so I'm gonna show it off a little. It's a 42" Plasma and I love it. All I need is some nice digital cable or satelite and then it will be complete. The picture is pretty good with regular cable and it's great with the PS2 and DVD.

So it was quite a while ago that I had given up on the Leafs chances of making the playoffs this year. Primarily when they got beat back to back by the dirty Habs. I knew that they were not technically eliminated yet but I also knew that they would have to go on one hell of a big winning streak to make it in. Well what do ya know... They've done exactly that and have pulled off an unbelievable streak and are now sitting just 3 points out of a playoff spot. They still need a little help if they are going to make it in. They still have Tampa Bay and Atlanta ahead of them but if the Leafs keep playing the way they have for these next few games then they may have a shot.

Tampa has to lose 2 of 3, Atlanta has to lose 1 of 3 and the leafs have to win 3 for them to make it in. It may be tough as they have Ottawa tomorrow night and Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. BUT! Ottawa has not been playing their best as of late and they have been playing their 3rd string goalie lately. Plus the Buds hammered the Sabres 7-0 in their last game. So ya never know.

I only have one question to ask John Ferguson and Mr. Quinn. Where was J.S. Aubin all year?

Well yesterday I got all the papers I need to apply for pogey. Connor and I are on our way to Barrie later this afternoon to see if we can get some free money. I finished my contract at Honda last week and now I have to wait and see if I get a phone call for full time. I hope I get that call soon. But for the meantime I'll be staying at home and hanging out with Connor. We got to go to the park yesterday for the first time this year as it was so nice out and park wasn't too muddy.

I'm keeping my eyes open for work though. I'm watching the HRDC website and watching the papers for something that may come up. So far I havn't gone stir crazy from being around the house all the time which I thought would happen last week.

So I would like to thank all you tax payers for paying my salary for the next little while.

What we've been up to lately

Hi all, not too much has been going on up here in Alliston lately. Just going about our daily lives but a few things of interest lately.

We went away this past weekend to Thornbury where my parents have a timeshare condo overlooking the bay. It's a real nice place and we got to do a bunch of swimming, which Connor really loved. It was nice to get away for the weekend. Next year I'll have to bring my skiis because it's very close to the Blue Mountains and lots of ski hills are close.

I have only two weeks left in my contract at Honda. Then I'll be riding the pogey train for a while. Hopefully I'll get a call back for full-time soon and won't be off work for too terribly long. I don't know how long I'll be able to not work because I tend to get stir crazy after sitting for more then a few days. I got a few leads that I'll try to follow up on.

Connor is getting close to that crazy 2 years old stage and is starting to throw temper tantrums now and again. Other then that he is doing great and is tons of fun.

Yesterday Honda had their Winterfest over at the Rec Centre. There was horse drawn wagon, dog sleds, family skating, free food, maple sugar tasting, and a bunch of presentations by local groups. They had a group that does jump rope and they were doing all these crazy tricks. Connor really liked that. Every year Honda gets one of the Maple Leafs to come and sign autographs. Last year Darryl Sittler was there and this year we had Carlo Colliacavo. I didn't get a autograph because the line was really long I would prefer somebody who has played more then 10 games in the NHL and hasn't been hurt for the majority of his career... Oh well it was still cool to have a Leaf there.

Hurray!!! I got Pleurisy!!! I topped the death cold!!!

Well after 3 visits to the ER in the last two weeks and being in agony for the last two weeks it turns out that it looks like I have pleurisy. I've been have this sharp painful pain in my chest for the last few weeks and the first two doctors said that it was a pulled muscle. Which was possible from my account because I helped a buddy move a few weeks back which included a piano. I got some muscle relaxers and some anti-inflamitorys but these did not seem to be working as the pain just seemed to be getting worse and worse. So I went back on Sunday and low and behold my family doctor was working that night. So my doc did a little more thorough testing and he thought that it was pleurisy. He put me on some heavy antibiotics and pain relivers that will actually work for this problem. Well it's been two days now and I'm feeling WAY better. I can actually move around some and cough a little more without so much pain. From what I've found out pleurisy is that it can be brought on by an injury to the chest (pulled muscle due to moving cursed piano(no offence Brie)). It also doesn't help that we have a few new jobs at work that require me to use my chest muscles for 2 hours straight at a time. Plus I'm trying to kick a cold where I've been hacking up stuff for a few weeks too.

So I'm off the Newmarket Hospital today for a lung scan. My doctor says my lungs sound clear so he's not too worried about anything else being wrong with me but wants to make sure. It feels good to know that this extra money I'm spending for OHIP this year on my taxes is going to be actually worth it.

The worst part about this whole thing is that I've been ordered by my doc not to go to work for this week. I just hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot for a chance at full-time by taking a little time off. I'm going to see him this morning so hopefully he'll say its alright for me to go back to work. Plus I'm going stir-crazy sitting at home all day. I went to work yesterday to talk to my team-leader and group-leader to let them know whats up so hopefully they won't think I'm just lazy. I've gone 16 months and the first day I missed was last week when I had the stomach flu.

Plus this is worse then the death-cold. So no more complaining from you Brock.

What we've been up to lately

Well, it's been quite a while since we've posted anything. No real reason except laziness. I'll do it in point form cuz I'm lazy.

- Connor now has 4 teeth and is starting to stand up on his own. He can stand alone for up to 12 seconds or so
- I paid off my car a few weeks ago. Feels really nice to not owe the bank anything for a change
- Kates back in the swing of things at school and is working way to hard as usual
- We started the new 2006 Civics this past month and I've been working tons of overtime.
- I got the death cold this week. At one point Kate asked me if she could do anything for me and I said shoot me. It's clearing up now so I'll survive.

That's about it for now. I'll try to write more often in the future.

My first week at school

Well, the first week at school has not been too bad. I officially start at 11:00, but I am usually there by 10:30. My first two periods are resource time, but since it is only the first week we aren't taking the kids out of their regular classes yet. So I have been using the time to read files and organize the stuff left by the other teacher in a way that makes sense to me. Sharon (our EA) and I have been working on the resource schedule, which is like...well, I can't even think of an appropriate simile to describe how hard that is. We have to co-ordinate when kids are taken out of their regular classes, but they can't miss this, and their mom doesn't want them to miss that, and these two can't come at the same time because they're doing different programs and...blah. Thankfully Sharon has lots of experience with this. At the end of the day I teach grade 3 and 4, which is going quite well, except I had forgotten how smart alec-y grade 4 boys are. Or at least they're seeing how far they can go with me. Which is not very far.
Connor has been going to Brieanne's this week and he has been having a great time. They have a 4(?) month old chocolate lab named Dixie and she is Connor's new friend. At first he was scared by her barking and would cry heart-wrenchingly, but I think he got over that quickly. Dave usually picks him up in the afternoon and I'm home by 4:30. It was so nice to see Connor waving to me from the front porch yesterday when I got home.

If you read the other Wager blogs you would have seen that Superhero names were all the rage in the family about a week ago. Grant found a site that will make a superhero name for you, so we were generating them with abandon. (If you want to find the site you will have to check Grant's blog.) The Wagers are all "Reactors", except for Garrett, who had something else. I just wanted to make a note of some of the more memorable superheroes of my aquaintance:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE!

Except that Dave isn't really interested that it's his birthday. He is more interested in the fact that they are STARTING NEW MODEL TODAY. That means that Honda is now building a new version of the Civic, which they revamp every five years. So they have been doing a lot of training and moving jobs around. There should be lots of overtime in the next few months, as I;m sure there will be lots of downtime as they work out the glitches on the line. And lots more overtime when hordes of people start to buy this fabulous new car. So I guess Connor and I would also like to say...

High Speed at last!

Well we finially broke down and got high speed this week. Well it's not REAL high speed but it is Sypatico Lite which is a heck of a lot faster then dial-up. After much fighting and phoning to Bell yesterday I finially got it up and running and seemes to be pretty good. I didn't really want to bother getting high speed as we don't really do a lot downloading or gaming at all so it didn't really make too much sense for us to spend the extra money. But low and behold Bell calls us up last week and says that we can get a month for free and that H/S will be cheaper then the dial-up that we have now. Plus we can still use the phone at the same time which is good. Now if only I can find some people that actually want to call us then it will be perfect!!!

Two things about the bat episode:

1. In general I am not squeamish about natural things--animals, dirt. But when I saw that bat I just felt horrified. I could not help ducking. I was afraid that it was going to fly into my forehead. Which it was not, and if it did, so what? It would have bumped into me and then flew away again. What's so scary about that? In my head I know that bats do not bump into things, but at the time I couldn't believe it. I guess its just an instinct or a reflex to duck away from flying things.

2. Dave makes me laugh. I was in our bedroom with Connor and Dave was out in the house getting something to catch the bat with, I THOUGHT. I thought he was getting a towel from the bathroom. NO, HE WAS GETTING THE CAMERA! When there's a wild animal in your house what's the first thing you think? For me, it's "Get the animal out of the house". For Dave, it's "Get the camera!" I never really would have predicted that of him. This amuses me.

Well we had a little excitement last night. I was just about to fall asleep at around 3:30am or so and Connor had just woken up. Kate was trying to get him back to sleep in his room and then I heard Kate calling to me. We apparenty had a bat flying around in Connor's room. We have no idea how it got inside. So I had to fight the cat away from the room cuz she was going crazy for this bat. It was just swooping all around the room. Luckily I was able to snap off a few pictures. I grabbed the sheet off our bed and managed to throw it over the bat on only my 3rd try. I unwrapped it a little and was going to try to take a good picture of it when it was sitting on the ground but it started to try and fly again so I just wrapped it up and threw it outside. Woohoo! I love it when a plan comes together!

It is quick to arrive and slow to leave.

We went to the Metro Zoo on Tuesday. It was a bit rainy in the morning but we set out anyway, hoping it would clear up. It did, and was not too hot. Connor was mildly amused by animals that were fairly big and did not move too quickly. Mostly, though, he was probably wondering why we kept pointing and saying, "Look, look!". He just thought he was having a really long ride in the stroller. We saw everything except the Canadian trail, because it is really long. At the end of the day we went around the new kids part, which was pretty neat. It was a good trip and Connor slept well in the car, which we were really thankful for.

We watched the seal swim for quite a long time. It was big and slow enough for Connor to follow.

This was really cool: the turtle swam around right at the glass for two or three minutes. Connor was singing to it.

Well as most of you know, Connor is in full crawling mode now for about 1 1/5 mths and we can't keep up to him most of the time. I don't mind the crawling though as now if he wants a certain toy then he can go get it and I don't have to try to guess what it is.

Anyways, the real update is that Connor has decided that crawling is for chumps. He has started pulling himself up to standing (not always successfully) and he will kinda walk a little if one of us holds his hands.

I'm not sure if I like this or not. I could barely keep up to him crawling, now he gonna go and start walking?!?! ACK!!!!

YEAH!!!! SHUTDOWN!!!!

Well, I'm officially in Shutdown now. The Plant closed on Thursday and now I am off till next monday!! I've really been looking forward to this break so I can rest up my body so I can do it all again right up till Christmas.

We have a lot of plans on the go for this week. I've already been golfing twice, been to the Carleton Triplets Birthday party, and successfully fell asleep twice now while watching Ocean's 12. (I'm really happy that Blockbuster doesn't have late fees any more cuz I always fall asleep) We might be going to the Zoo tomorrow and we are going to Sarnia on Wednesday for a few days.

Yesterday we went to the Honda family picnic at Santa's Village in Bracebridge. They rent out the whole park for 2 days for the merriment of their employees and families. We had all the fun that we could have with a baby. We petted the deer, visited Santa, went on the merry-go-round, boat, ferris wheel and train, ate our hot dogs and got free cotton candy. They have a really great kids play area that I'm sure he will like more next year. They also have a tiny little chapel up on a hill which we thought was kind of goofy, but it ended up being a quiet place to nurse Connor. The only drawback to the day was that Connor had a miserable time in the car. He threw up on the way there and cried almost the whole way home. He is NOT enjoying car rides lately. I wonder if he feels sick. Is is possible for babies to have motion sickness?
So for $1 tickets, we figure we got our money's worth. And I wish I'd had a video camera when we got home. After being confined in the stroller, car seat and our arms all day Connor's energy just exploded when I put him on the kitchen floor. He was banging toys, pans and yelling at the top of his lungs!
